रोम (इटालियन: Roma) ही इटली देशाची राजधानी व सगळ्यात मोठे शहर आहे. रोम शहरात अंदाजे २७ लाख तर महानगर परिसरात ३७ लाख लोकवस्ती आहे.[२]

इटलीच्या मध्य-पश्चिम भागात लात्सियो प्रांतामध्ये तिबेर व ऍनियेन नद्यांच्या संगमावर वसलेल्या रोम शहराला अतिप्राचीन इतिहास आहे. इ.स. पूर्व ८व्या शतकापासूनच्या लिखित इतिहासात रोमचा उल्लेख आहे. एका नोंदीनुसार रोमची स्थापना एप्रिल २१, इ.स.पूर्व ७५३ रोजी करण्यात आली होती. ऐतिहासिक रोमन साम्राज्याची राजधानी रोम येथेच होती.

दुसऱ्या शतकापासून पोपचे वास्तव्य रोम शहरामध्ये राहिले आहे. १९२९ साली स्थापन झालेला व्हॅटिकन सिटी हा जगातील सर्वांत लहान देश पूर्णपणे रोम शहराच्या अंतर्गत आहे.[३]

रोम हे इटलीमधील सर्वांत लोकप्रिय, युरोपीय संघामधील ३ रे तर जगातील ११वे लोकप्रिय पर्यटनस्थळ आहे.[४] युनेस्कोच्या जागतिक वारसा स्थानांपैकी रोम हे एक आहे.[५]
